Growing up on an Ozarks farm meant that I paid more attention than most to the cycles of nature. Many of the practices we used on the farm while not specifically identified as folk magic I realize now come from a long tradition of doing things a certain way. And if that’s not folk magic, I’m not sure what it is. Come learn about some of the practices you can incorporate into your own day-to-day lives even if you don’t live on a farm and make a couple of simple hands-on charms to take home. The Southern Gothic Tarot
The Younger Futhark runes were derived from the Elder Futhark runes hundreds of years ago as a continuation of using runes for magical and mystical purposes. This class will explore the shape and sound made by each rune, its meanings and connotations, as well as magical uses of Younger Futhark runes. Transliteration of Younger Futhark runes and the creation of bindrunes will be discussed.

A Twisted Phoenix
While it has come to be synonymous with stretching and physical exercise in the West, the roots of yoga are deeply spiritual. This workshop will introduce participants to the four yogas described in the Upanishads and the 8-fold conception of yoga detailed by Patanjali over 2000 years ago in the Yoga Sutras. We will fast forward in time to the 20th century and discover the relatively new rise to prominence of vinyasa-based yoga that has come to be so ubiquitous. Asana, pranayama, and meditation will be incorporated throughout this workshop, to prepare participants' minds for learning and to show, in real-time, how these practices fit together and complement one another. By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will gain a birds-eye view on the philosophical outlook of yoga and be able to understand the modern expressions of yoga with a historical context.

Come hear how a west Tennessee witch took tales of Ozark and Appalachian lore and spun them into oracle decks that have captured the world’s imagination. Descended from Ozark practitioners, farmers, and cowgirls, Stacey has always been fascinated by the Southern Gothic genre. Most of all, as an artist, she has wondered at how story-telling and song have served the very important purpose of healing from unspeakable violence and trauma.
In this presentation Stacey will share her own journey of creating some hair-raising oracle cards inspired by Southern culture and folklore. Her cards, some of which get very dark with monsters and sinister preachers, co-exist alongside dreamy images of magnolias and sassafras tea. Her greatest observation since making these decks might just be how relatable the legends of the American South have been to people outside the diaspora. It seems people everywhere need models for how to transmute pain into joy, through stories and song.
Stacey will show some of her favorite painted scenes from over 250 cards, and share the lore behind them. Attendees will be invited to consider how the cards can serve as ancestral messages from beyond the veil, or as learning material, or just as amusing novelties. These cards make the esoteric personal, and come to life in the hands of their owners.
