Kingsley Plantation, 11676 Palmetto Ave, Jacksonville, FL, 32226, United States.

This immersive workshop will be held at Kingsley Plantation. Teachers will learn about the economy of Antebellum Florida and the life and legacy of one of the most influential Florida families in the early to mid 1800s – the Kingsleys. They will learn about the relatively unusual plantation system employed by the Kingsleys (contrasting it to plantations in other parts of the state) and why the Kingsley family might not have wanted to become Americans. In addition, teachers will consider the question “Why did Florida join the Confederacy?” using information from the 1850 Census.

This workshop is specifically designed for high school and middle school teachers but ALL educators are welcome!

VENUE DETAILS: Parking and admission are free at Kingsley Plantation. Park in the main lot, near the plantation house. Walk over to the visitor's center for directions to the air conditioned workshop location.
