This course is tailored specifically for the football club charity environment and delivered in person.

Pre-requisite:

As a minimum, attendees should have undertaken some introductory/awareness raising learning on domestic abuse prior to attending this enhanced learning opportunity.

Pre-amble:

Exposure to domestic abuse and coercive controlling behaviour, has a serious impact on a child or young person's mental and physical wellbeing, often manifesting in behaviours that may challenge staff. This can last into adulthood.

This course will give learners an opportunity to explore these issues in more depth and consider the implications for their practice when working with children and young people in the football club charity environment.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this one-day course, attendees will be able to:

  • Appreciate the ways in which children may be affected by parental domestic abuse as an adverse childhood experience
  • Understand the impact of parental domestic abuse in the context of child and adolescent development
  • Recognise some of the signs and indicators of a trauma response to domestic abuse in a child or young person
  • Understand our role and responsibility in terms of a safeguarding response to a child or young person who discloses parental domestic abuse
  • Identify the ways in which we can offer support and provide a trauma informed response to a child or young person affected by parental domestic abuse

Who: Designated Safeguarding Officers, programme leads/managers and senior delivery staff.
