Discover Sailing

This 3-hour introductory sailing course offers a hands-on experience for beginners eager to discover the world of sailing. The session begins with a comprehensive lesson on how a sailboat works, covering key concepts like the sail, wind, and rudder, and how they interact to move the boat through the water. Students will then learn the basics of rigging the boat, including how to set the sails and adjust the lines. The final portion of the course provides an exciting opportunity to take the helm, where participants will sail the boat with the guidance of an experienced instructor, practicing skills like steering, tacking, and jibing in real-time. This fun and interactive course is perfect for anyone looking to get a feel for sailing in a safe and supportive environment.

No experience necessary. A life jacket and proper footwear (non-marking rubber soles) are required.

Runs Saturday, Jule 21, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

About Organizer

Otsego Sailing Club Organizer name

The Otsego Sailing Club, Inc., is a non-profit organization of sailboat owners who have mutual interests in sailing and sailboat racing. It was founded to encourage recreation and competitive sailing, to promote safety in sailing and all associated activities, and to promote good sportsmanship. The club traces its roots to the summer of 1961 when five families sailed together on Otsego Lake. That fall they organized the Otsego Sailing Club. By-laws were written and race and social programs organized. The support that the club received from Harry Cook was one of the key factors that assured its future. For several years he permitted the club to rent part of his land. He then sold to the club the property it now owns. We have prospered over the years because of the good will and cooperative spirit of our members. Membership includes obligations and responsibilities in order to ensure the continuance of the club.
