Data entry in DHIS2 often involves searching for individual client records and navigating through multiple tabs to input information. In regions where journal-based, often paper, record-keeping is common, this process can be inefficient. To address this, we developed a journal input mechanism within DHIS2, allowing users to enter data for multiple clients in a single table-like form. This approach enhances speed, accuracy, and ease of use, making it highly adaptable to the needs of resource-limited settings. Join us to explore how this innovation transforms data entry workflows.

This session will provide an overview of the MSH experience in implementing a global DHIS2 instance used for project monitoring, donor reporting and other use-cases, including challenges, lessons learned and reflections on the future. If possible, we could be part of a larger panel or discussion with other iNGOs on the implementation and approaches related to donor reporting and performance monitoring. Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is a global nonprofit organization that provides governments, health organizations, and the private sector with the strategies, tools, and management support to effectively and efficiently establish high-functioning health systems.

One of major pandemic take home missions is the Public Health Digital Health Strategy. To upscale public and community health informatics practice we piloted studies to test the potential or DHIS2 to elevate organizational capacities in managing its information and workflows that support sharing, analytics and real time decision making. Graduate students of Health Informatics were given Internships to study the potential of using DHIS2 for collaborative care model (Missouri) and Health Information Exchange (Indiana). Development training was given by an international consultant and students spent the summer building the systems. This presentation summarizes the opportunity and challenges.

This session aims to provide participants with valuable insights into the impact of the DHIS2 Android Capture App on task-shifting for viral load monitoring. Participants will discover how this technology has facilitated the empowerment of young people to actively take on roles in viral load tracking, thereby fostering leadership and community ownership. This session explores the integration of digital tools to assess and enhance climate resilience in primary healthcare systems. Using a case study from Borno State, Nigeria, it demonstrates how an adapted and digitized World Health Organisation (WHO) vulnerability assessment tool, renamed as Climate Change Vulnerability in Health Facilities Assessment Tool [CCV-HFAT] was deployed to evaluate climate resilience preparedness in 10  flood-prone healthcare facilities. Participants will gain insights into how CCV-HFAT as a climate-focused digital innovation could strengthen healthcare infrastructure resilience to climatic events, mitigate climate impacts, and ensure the continuity of essential healthcare.

limate change poses an urgent threat to public health worldwide, with low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) bearing the brunt of climate-sensitive health risks, including increased rates of vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, and cholera, as well as the growing impacts of heat stress. These climate-induced health challenges are exacerbated by data silos and capacity limitations within national health systems, limiting their ability to respond effectively. Leveraging the DHIS2 platform infrastructure at the country level, the DHIS2 Climate App is designed to help address this gap by integrating climate and weather data directly into the platform, equipping health systems with essential tools for climate-resilient planning. This app aggregates and harmonizes weather information (e.g., temperature, precipitation, and humidity) with national health geographies, producing localized climate-health insights for evidence-based decision-making. By aligning with the needs of LMICs that often face resource constraints, this app enables health systems to identify climate impacts more precisely, plan interventions, and mitigate the health risks posed by climate change. Since its release in April 2024, the app has been piloted in collaboration with health ministries and meteorological services across 10 countries in Africa and Southeast Asia. This partnership fosters interoperability between climate and health data, empowering health systems to respond to climate impacts on public health through data-informed strategies. At the symposium, we will demonstrate the app’s functionalities, highlight successes and lessons from pilot countries, and provide hands-on guidance to help participants implement the app within their own DHIS2 systems, enhancing health system resilience to climate change.
