Changing Critical Outcomes ... De-Escalation & Non-Escalation (For Field Supervisors and Trainers)

Relatively minor conflict spiraling out of control is at the forefront of today’s law enforcement challenges. Unwanted outcomes are largely matters of poor communication and failure to exercise emotional intelligence. No matter a member’s function or rank, poor communication skills cause self-induced jeopardy on multiple fronts. We've all seen officers who arrive at tense situations and make things better. We've also seen officers who arrive at a situation that is under control and make things worse.

This Training ...

is about making things better and not worse.

It recognizes the criticality in law enforcement work of good human relations and interpersonal communication skills and the need to assure the presence of those skills in law enforcement officers.

To this end, we have developed the I.M.P.A.C.T. Project, which formed the substantive content of this training.  It was created by law enforcement professionals all of whom have vast police experience and advanced, highly relevant academic credentials.

The premise and core belief of the I.M.P.A.C.T. Project is that improvement of officer performance in this skill domain will strengthen community relations, increase investigative effectiveness, reduce complaints and lawsuits, and enhance officer and public safety.

This day is about field supervision and training - guiding officers in their personal efforts to know and understand how the involved principles are properly applied to police practices.

  • Self awareness
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Anger and fear management
  • Reducing emotional tension
  • The scientific principles of interpersonal communication
  • Judgment and decision-making
  • Core values and public contact professionalism
