Curatorial Conversation with Diana Sardaryan

Hello everyone! We are happy to announce the 3rd event of our Curatorial Conversation series with Diana Sardaryan on Wednesday August 26th at 7pm in our gallery. 

In this conversation, we’ll think about what it means to define ourselves culturally in a supposedly “global” world. Who produces the knowledge we live by, and why does it matter where that knowledge comes from? What happens when foreign ideas, values, and ways of being are adopted and integrated into a local context, and what kinds of side effects does that process leave behind?

We’ll talk about hard and soft power, and the ways they shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. We’ll also consider the importance of studying in places where knowledge, resources, and cultural power have historically been concentrated, and what being inside these centers can reveal about our own contexts, histories, and ways of knowing. We will explore the creation of myths and narratives, and how Armenia is going through this process of redefining and constructing its own narratives right now.

Diana Sardaryan (1996) is an art curator, currently persuing her MA in Curatorial Practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her curatorial work centers underrepresented cultures, engaging with post-colonial narratives, and exploring situated cultural knowledge and plural practices within today’s global context. Her interests focus on the intersection of art, design, and technology, reflecting human experience of themselves and each other through cultural production and shared environments.
