Join us in our gallery space for a conversation between founder Nairi Khatchadourian and Berlin-based curator Asya Yaghmurian. Together, they will reflect on the importance of the curatorial in today’s rapidly shifting global landscape, addressing the challenges of contemporary society, the pressures of global hardships, and the role of art in negotiating these transformations. The discussion will also touch on their longstanding collaboration, which began in 2015, and the ways in which curatorial practices can respond to the urgencies and possibilities of art today.
Yaghmurian has curated projects and exhibitions internationally, including the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Art (2019), LagosPhoto (2020 and 2021 editions), and Düsseldorf Photo Plus (2022 and 2024 editions). In 2024, she curated a symposium On Reality at K21 in Dusseldorf, a two-day program with international speakers exploring the relationship between reality and representation. Earlier this year, she was part of the Maxim Gorki Theatre’s festival 100+10: Armenian Allegories in Berlin. Most recently, in October 2025, she co-curated the exhibition To Everything, Spurn, Spurn, Spurn at Frieze London, together with Slavs and Tatars, presenting artists from Central Asia. Currently, she is preparing a travelling exhibition, co-curated with Vigen Galstyan, set to open at the National Gallery of Armenia in 2026. This project, Event of a Thread, includes a section that has been touring internationally and will be significantly expanded for the Armenian edition. Alongside her curatorial work, Yaghmurian is active as an editor for publications and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).
As a curatorial practice based in Yerevan, AHA collective values the experience of diverse curators and is launching Curatorial Conversation as an ongoing series of talks with local and international curators in its gallery space. It’s a real pleasure to host the first event with Asya Yaghmurian.
