A one day Immunisation update and training programme aimed at those HCSW's who require an update, and who will be undertaking COVID-19 immunisations. This will include:
- An update on issues relating to flu pneumococcal and shingles vaccines and then education and training specifically for COVID-19 immunisation.
- Vaccine specifics - for example, how it is made, how it works, what it contains.
- Who the vaccine should be given to
- Contraindictions and precautions
- Legal issues including obtaining consent and legal framework to supply/administer the vaccine (PGD/PSD/protocol/patient specific prescription) as available on the day of training
- How the vaccine should be stored
- How to prepare the vaccine
- How to recognise and respond to side effects following immunisation
- How to dispose of vaccine equipment
- What to expect after vaccination and other information to give those who have been vaccinated
- Where to record that COVID-19 vaccine has been given and what to record
- Supervision and delegation responsibilities
- Infection prevention and control measures
- A practical session to review intromuscular injection techniques (kit list attached required for the session)
