AHA collective has the pleasure to host a conversation with artist Anna Boghiguian on Wednesday October 23rd at 7pm. Born and raised in Egypt, Boghiguian studied political science and economics in Cairo in the 1960s and continued her education in arts and music in Montreal, Canada, in the early 1970s. Constantly on the move between continents, Boghiguian grasps local cultures and histories through vivid and expressive images she draws, sculpts, binds as books, extends as large-scale installations with found objects and humble materials that she produces on site. As a careful observer of our contemporary world, the artist researches places and local contexts and poetically weaves together various narratives that resonate with each other across past and present historical periods. Her affinity with literature and poetry leads her to develop a sensitive body of work resembling a book freed into space, a character-filled theatrical setting responding to our contemporary geopolitical realities, reflecting on global commerce histories, wars and conflicts, denouncing oppression and aggression. A nomadic artist practicing at the margin of the contemporary art scene for decades, Boghiguian started participating in major art events and museum shows since 2010 (Documenta 13, Istanbul, Sharjah, Venice, London, Paris, to name just a few). In 2024, she has been awarded the 30th Wolfgang Hahn Prize of the Society for Modern Art at the Museum Ludwig.
Moderated by Nairi Khatchadourian, the conversation will offer an intimate window into Anna Boghiguian’s artistic journey and the creative and critical processes that shape her practice and artistic vision.
Free entrance with prior registration. Space is limited.
