Friday, Jul 16, 2021 at 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM EDT

Davidian's Farm Market, 500, Northborough, MA, 01532, United States.

Join us for lunch at 12:30, and the workshop at 1:15!

Attendees will have the chance to get on the tractor and run the FORIGO G35, which can bury stones, incorporate cover crop residue, form a shaped-bed, and lay plastic and drip tape in one pass.

We will also have an in-depth discussion of attendees' experiences integrating cover crops and reduced tillage strategies into shaped-bed vegetable production systems, to benefit soil health.

We hope for a fruitful exchange of knowledge and experience, while providing a unique opportunity to trial this new technology.

Background: Davidian’s Farm, together with the Worcester County Conservation District, is conducting an on-farm trial of the FORIGO Stone Burier and soil conditioner (Model G35) as part of a novel cover cropping and reduced tillage strategy, supported by the USDA NRCS through a Conservation Innovation Grant.

The trial is comparing conventional tillage and weed mat production to tillage with the FORIGO machine with a living cover left between the rows. We want to learn from the experience of other producers who have used cover crops as a living mulch, and brainstorm different approaches to reducing tillage and using cover crops year round.

This is the start of a three-year trial, with potential participation in multiple workshops to learn with us in the trial process.

Who’s invited:

Vegetable producers who would be interested in using similar equipment and approaches on their farm, and want to try it out and discuss ways to use cover crops and reduce tillage in their shaped-bed vegetable production.

Cost and Registration:

The workshop is free with lunch provided, but registration is required. Do not register if you don’t anticipate attending, as food will be prepared for all registrants. Grinder preferences will be part of registration.
