This 1.5 day seminar is a unique program. Most of your future success will be a function of how well you coach and influence others to perform at higher levels. People follow leaders they trust and who help them learn skills that make them successful.

Leadership skills are best gained by hands-on practice, honest feedback and learning from mistakes.  This program teaches how to leverage these dynamics to heighten skills you will use throughout your career. It is for those who want to up their game and get measurable results.

Workshop Topics & Practice Exercises

  • The Critical Relationship Between Coaching and Leadership
  • Culture: What is it and Why is it so Important?
  • Circle of Control, Circle of Concern
  • The Coaching Mindset
  • Action Planning & Forming the Coaching Cohorts
  • Setting Goals and Expectations
  • The Art of the Conversation
  • Collaboration: A Contact Sport
  • Engaging and Developing Your Team
  • Bringing it all together: A Process That Works Every Time

Many of us have attended a workshop, enjoyed the break from the day-to-day grind, had some interesting discussions but then gone back to the job and just never got around to applying the workshop content.  That will not be the case here.  Our approach is simple, yet quite different. While attending, you will learn and practice skills that will make you a stronger leader but most importantly you will create a strong action plan, implement it, and over the three months following the workshop, be accountable to your peers to share the results in order to learn from both successes and failures.  Leadership is about building and growing productive relationships, understanding and influencing the culture of the organization, and coaching and guiding your team to excel today and in the future. This workshop is guided by truly qualified facilitators.

Randy Means is the principal in Randy Means & Associates, LLC, headquartered in Norfolk, VA. His company is the successor to The Thomas & Means Law Firm, LLP where he spent 30 years with his law partner Bob Thomas, an amazingly talented attorney/police legal advisor who, among other distinctions, managed the litigation in Graham vs Conner, a landmark law enforcement case decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. His retirement March 31, 2020, ended Thomas & Means. Randy is a nationally recognized expert in police law, leadership, accountability and systems. He served many years as in-house counsel to a major city police department, former department head at a state law enforcement training center, and past head of the national association of law enforcement legal advisors. He has provided services to many hundreds of law enforcement agencies, helping to solve the most complex and sensitive problems in American law enforcement. However, his proudest accomplishment is having brought together a 50-member team to assist him in his work. It may be the strongest team of law enforcement experts ever assembled, at least by a private company. Its vast law enforcement experience and other amazing credentials, along with Randy’s, are brought to bear every day to benefit the law enforcement profession.
