This is the only class date for Chief classes. Please schedule in what fits your schedule and be sure to attend as we will have no other dates available prior to Election Day on November 5th. State Law mandates training in order to work the Election.
After training, participants will be able to:
Describe General polling place information such as dates, times, locations, contact info, etc.,
Describe security awareness and expected rules of behavior,
Describe General guidelines on how to interact with people with disablilites, and know when and how to provide assistance (e.g., process for pen placement with a blind voter),
Describe polling place preparation,
Describe the policy regarding line management,
Describe the policy regarding elderly voters and voters with disabilities when there is a long line of voters (place holder card),
Describe a chief judges responsibilities, including supervision of election judges and maintaining order inside and outside the polling place, also picking up and returning election day supplies,
Describe the responsibilities of Check-in judges, Voting area judges, Provisional judges, and Greeters,
Demonstrate the set up of the Ballot Marking Device,
Demonstrate how to use the electronic Pollbook, Ballot Marking Device and Scanning Unit,
Use the electronic Pollbook to search for voters, look up a voter's correct precinct and print Consolidated Ballot Count Reports and Consolidated Voter Count Reports,
Understand the process of Same Day Registration transactions including how to conduct additional searches on the electronic Pollbook and what type of documentation is needed for proof of residency, including where to put the signed oath documents,
Describe the transporting and securing of voted, unvoted, and spoiled regular ballots and ballot activation cards,
Describe procedures for when voting equipment does not work as expected,
Describe what needs to be done if a Ballot Marking Device becomes inoperable (notify technical field support and the LBE, issue a Return Pass),
Describe how and when to cancel, re-issue and replace ballots,
Demonstrate how to complete required paperwork inc:
Scanning Unit Integrity Report, Electronic Pollbook Integrity Report, Ballot Certificate, Provisional Opening & Closing Certificate, Provisional Tally Sheet, Ballot Marking Device Integrity Report, Closing Totals Report, Daily Closing Report, Election Day Log, Mail-in Ballot Bag Integrity Report, Main-in Ballot Drop Off Sign-in Sheet, Other local forms
Demonstrate how to interact with voters, including voters with disabilities and voters who have questions about the scanning unit, along with voters who have questions about the accessibility features of the Ballot Marking Device, voters who needs to vote a Provisional ballot, voters who have had their identity challenged, voters who want to have their ballot cancelled, voters who have write-in voting questions (General Election Only), and voters who need assistance with the ballot,
Close the voting equipment at the end of election night including printing the reports,
Demonstrate solutions to common election day problems, to include when to notify the local board of elections,
And last but not least, Describe procedures to follow when extended voting hours are ordered.
