Pledge
I accept that I am representing my Savior and Lord and Friend, Jesus Christ, as well as GYC and it’s affiliates, Youth Rush and Canada Youth Challenge, in participating in this program. I will care for the ID badge I am presented as well as any materials presented to my at the program. I understand that I will be working under the liability coverage and employment agreement with GYC, and will be keeping a percentage of sales I make when selling books that will likely offset the registration fee of $150, which covers transportation during the entire program. I will be available for the duration of the entire program (July3-August3) and will do my best each work day, as well as allow my teammates to do likewise. I affirm that all the information I have provided in this application is true, and I am aware that my references may be contacted by GYC. I am also aware I may need to provide or complete a Criminal Record Check, as per standard volunteer and employment practices in Canada. I have also read and support the vision and rationale for the GYC summer program, as outlined below.
Vision
To equip a team of youth and young adults to plant seeds or reap ripe harvest in the fields across Canada by means of literature evangelism.
Rationale
“Go ye therefore” was Jesus’ command, implying that those who are lost and need salvation of Jesus will not always come to the body of Christ; as His hands and feet, it is on us to reach out and seek them out. The methods of Christ were long ago described and modeled in the work of the 12 disciples, as they went from city to city and town to town; they went two by two, sharing truth to homes where they were welcome and leaving when unwelcome. In like fashion, the work of the literature evangelist is to go from city to city, house to house, two by two, to plant seeds of exposure to Christ in the hearts of any who are willing and receptive.
In addition, we are admonished by Ellen G White of the value and importance of spreading Adventist literature, stating is should be “scattered everywhere as the leaves of autumn” (PM5.2), and that much work can be accomplished by our publications; “The circulation of our literature is one very important means of placing before men and women the light that the Lord has committed to His church to be given to the world. The books sold by our canvassers open to many minds the unsearchable riches of Christ” (CM16.3). My personal conversion and the timeliness of it is a testimony to the dedicated work of a literature evangelist who came and sold materials to my mom on various occasions in the early days of her coming to Christ. Still now, all across our country, people need to connect with Jesus, aching with broken marriages, dysfunctional families, rising depression and anxiety, and enduring health problems. May we rise to the call and double our efforts to spread the healing, hope, and happiness that Jesus alone can give. May we invest our time in “equipping of the saints, the work of ministry, the edifying of the body of Christ” (Eph4:12). May many lives be transformed and renewed as the fruits of this ministry’s labors in Canada.
