Dear All,
The Institution of Structural Engineers, wish to invite you to the following webinar:
Discover how concrete can be transformed from an unsustainable material into an effective tool for cleaning up our planet.
(Live streamed on Zoom / YouTube)
Date : Tuesday 18 November 2025 at 19:00 GST
Concrete is the second most used material in the world after water, and it is the number one construction material. Although concrete is more sustainable than some alternative building materials, its massive global use makes it environmentally unsustainable. However, concrete has the potential to contribute effectively to the planet’s sustainability agenda.
This presentation will explore the unsustainable aspects of concrete, current efforts to make it more eco-friendly, and the challenges associated with these methods. It will also highlight research being conducted at Heriot-Watt University aimed at developing more sustainable and cost-effective concrete.
This presentation will provide valuable insights for anyone interested in concrete — a material the construction industry simply cannot ignore.
