Effective July 1, 2015, The OSSA Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) has replaced the OSSA Regional Orientation (ORO). All workers must be able to show proof of completion of the OSSA ORO or the BSO at particiopating Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) Owner Member sites (Canadian Natural, Shell Albian Sands, Suncor Energy Inc., and Syncrude Canada Ltd).
The course is an Instructor led interactive classroom program. The material is based on the OSSA Regional Safety Rules, including the 7 Life Saving Rules. The learning objective is to provide participants with a general awareness of critical safety initiatives found at participating OSSA Member work sites.
Government issued photo ID is required to be presented to the Instructor. You must be on time; unfortunately students arriving late will not be permitted into the course. In order to achieve a credential in this course, you must obtain a minimum 80% score on the theory test at the end of the program. At this time, this credential does not expire.
Cancellation policy • We strongly recommend registrants arrive 15 minutes prior to course commencement to sign in. • Students who arrive 30 or more minutes after the course has begun will not be permitted to participate, and will forfeit their course fee. • Students who fail to arrive on the date of their course will forfeit the course fee. • Registrants will forfeit the full course fee if cancellation notice or date transfer requests are received fewer than 5 business days prior to the scheduled course date. • The pace of the course is brisk, thus, being present for all instruction is essential. Participants who, for any reason, miss more than 15 minutes of instructional time cannot be caught up to the rest of the class, will forfeit their course fee, and be asked to re-register for a later course date. Registrants who must attend to urgent matters and miss fewer than 15 minutes of instruction can be caught up during a break. • A company may substitute a registrant up to one day prior to the course date without penalty. • Fall Protection Group does not issue “transfer credits.” Attendees who wish to re-register for a later course date for any of the aforementioned reasons (absenteeism, tardiness, failing to successfully pass the course, being asked to leave a course for any reason, or cancelling with fewer than 5 business days’ notice) will be required to pay the full course fee for any subsequent course dates. • Fall Protection Group reserves the right to cancel any scheduled courses five business days in advance of course commencement. Fall Protection Group will notify registered individuals as soon as the class has been canceled.
