Dear All,

IStructE UAE Regional Group Committee is inviting you to a webinar on the topic “Atlantis The Royal Hotel : Case study – Designing multiperformance glass features” to be presented by a team of speakers from Arup.

The case study concerns the journey from the client’s vision to construct multiple structural glass elements scattered across this vast project, focusing on the two located in the entry vestibule: Deluge – a pair of all glass lifts and Alight two triple height glass and stainless-steel corridor walls.

Atlantis The Royal is a new hotel in Dubai with a theme of water. The hotel features a multitude of pools, water features and aquariums in numerous shapes and forms. Arup was appointed to provide design services for multiple structural glass elements scattered across this vast project. This talk will focus on the two structural glass elements located in the entry vestibule: Deluge – a pair of all-glass lifts with water cascading on the outer surface; and Alight – a feature involving ?re, water and glass. These two glass components are excellent examples of how creative design and engineering can work together to deliver an awe-inspiring feature. Capturing the essence of water and ?re, they provide a captivating entryway to the hotel and serve as a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the designers and engineers who brought them to life.

Arup’s design of the glass features is an excellent example of how creative design and engineering can deliver a technically complex design while maintaining high aesthetic aspirations.
