Please join us at the IFSA London Flagship for a video broadcasting of a fascinating talk given by an expert speaker in the Buenos Aires IFSA Flagship on the topic of Argentinian Feminism.

Feminism has occupied a central role in Argentina’s social and political narrative since 2015 when, under the hashtag #NiUnaMenos (“#NotOne[Woman]Less”), it transformed from a “school of thought” into a “movement of the people,” erupting in the form of massive protests to denounce the systematic violence against women. Since that time, the movement has extended to multiple countries in Latin America and around the world, inspiring similar calls to action, such as the #MeToo movement in the U.S. The movement continues to evolve in Argentina, growing beyond its initial focus on gender-based violence to address several other social, economic and political issues.

This presentation will examine the current, distinctive characteristics of the #NiUnaMenos movement in Argentina, including its language, visibility, and methods of protest, and will prompt discussion around its primary demands and challenges, including: Gender-based violence Legal, safe and free access to abortion Equality of social and economic rights and opportunities Absolute recognition of diverse identities Abolishment of stereotypes that stigmatize others Debate over the role of prostitution as sex work vs. violence Supporting the legitimate demands of other social movements without losing sight of its own focus on women’s rights.

About the presenter: Presentation by Griselda López: Griselda is a journalist and graduate of Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires.
