The APG Leadership Formation Program is structured with six sessions each building on the prior sessions and activities.

Session 1 is foundational—focusing on the big picture of leadership in the APG context.  It’s focused on the essence of leadership, the Anabaptist Values frame of reference, and leadership of an Anabaptist-based organization in the ministry of aging services

Sessions 2, 3, and 4 are focused primarily on leadership competencies, behaviors, skills, and application – expressions of leadership congruent with the values and context explored in session 1.   These sessions focus on the employee and client experience.

Sessions 5 and 6 return to the big picture of leadership and the organization as a whole.  Session 5 explores the organization’s developmental needs and the partnership of board and management.  Session 6 culminates with the articulation of personal leadership philosophy, values, and practices.

Sessions 1 and 2 are both two day overnight gatherings; Sessions 3, 4, 5 and 6 are each one day gatherings. Sessions are held at APG member locations.

  I.        March 20-12- Peter Becker Community

II.        May 22-23- Menno Haven Retirement Community

III.        July 24- Fairmount Homes

IV.        August 29- Messiah Lifeways

V.        October 7- Frederick Living

VI.        December 4- Garden Spot Village

The content is reinforced between sessions with application and reading assignments, formal project or learning lab, cohort team interaction, and personal reflections.

The structured process is envisioned to offer a challenging and engaging learning experience that includes many methodologies, activities, practical application, and assessments.  The design is to deepen leaders’ awareness and ability to better serve their faith-based, Anabaptist organizations.

Anabaptist Providers Group (APG) is an affiliation of 16 retirement communities and other senior services providers in southeast Pennsylvania, all of whom are identified with one of the historic Anabaptist faith traditions (Brethren in Christ, Church of the Brethren, Mennonite, United Christian Church and United Zion denominations). Founded in 2001, APG carries out its mission to support its member organizations, by providing leadership development, introduction of business/operational programs, and provision of a forum to encourage integration of Anabaptist values into operations and relationships.
