Officiating Experience 2025

Get a first-hand look into the world of hockey officiating at Officiating Experience 2025! This unique event is designed for current high school student-athletes interested in learning what it takes to become an ice hockey official.
Led by the ADHSHL Director of Officials and key members of our officiating team — many of whom are former ADHSHL players — this experience offers both classroom and on-ice training in a supportive, hands-on environment.

- Todd Seagal, ADHSHL Referee in Chief
- Alexander Kitano (Orange Lutheran '18, ACHA National Tournament Referee)
- Jacob Fisk (Los Alamitos High School '20)
- Dylan Butler (Villa Park High School '22)
- Cole Colbert (Villa Park High School '22)
- David Marlin (Irvine High School '18)
Schedule:
- 1:30 PM: Arrival & Check-in outside Five Point Arena
- 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Classroom Session on Introductory Officiating Topics (Rink 1 Classroom)
- 4:00 PM – 4:30 PM: On-Ice Warm-up & Positioning Practice
- 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM: Officials Game – Student-athletes rotate through referee and linesman roles with live mentoring
What to Bring:
- Helmet with full face protection
- Hockey pants and lower-body protective gear
- Home jersey
- Officials gear (if available)
- Electronic whistles will be provided
Participants will be guided by experienced officials who will mentor and “shadow” them on-ice during a real-time scrimmage. By the end of the session, athletes will gain a deeper understanding of officiating and be invited to express their interest in becoming certified officials for future seasons.
