Core Itinerary

  • Sunday, June 14: Arrive in St. John's, Newfoundland (YYT) and meet the group for dinner together to discuss the upcoming adventure
  • Monday, June 15: We start today bright and early with a trip to Cape Spear, the easternmost point in North America. As the sun peeks over the horizon, capture the ethereal beauty of the Atlantic Ocean and the historic Cape Spear Lighthouse. Listen for the distant blow of humpback whales as you photograph the rugged cliffs bathed in the first light of day. After a relaxing midday break, we'll go back out to photograph St. John's at golden hour and sunset.
  • Tuesday, June 16: Get ready for an exhilarating day as we drive to Cape St. Mary’s, one of North America’s most stunning wildlife photography locations. Stand on the edge of the dramatic cliffs and photograph thousands of northern gannets and other seabirds in their natural habitat. The sheer number of birds and the rugged landscape create a breathtaking scene. We’ll then journey to the charming village of Branch, known for its picturesque coastal views. This quaint spot offers fantastic opportunities for capturing the essence of Newfoundland’s traditional coastal life. As evening approaches, we’ll head back to Cape St. Mary’s to photograph the gannets during the golden hour. The soft, warm light will enhance your shots of these majestic birds, making for some truly spectacular images.
  • Wednesday, June 17: We'll start early with another shoot at the seabird colony before embarking on a scenic drive to the town of Bonavista. Bonavista’s rugged coastline, historic landmarks, and colorful architecture provide endless photographic inspiration. Bonavista is also near the puffin colony at Elliston, where we'll be able to photograph them as they nest on the rugged cliffs.
  • Thursday, June 18: We’ll start by immersing ourselves in the vibrant world of Elliston, renowned for its lively Atlantic puffin colony. As you navigate the cliffs, you’ll have the chance to get up close and personal with these charming seabirds. With guidance from your expert photographer, you’ll capture captivating portraits of puffins against the dramatic backdrop of the rugged coastline.
Adding a touch of excitement to the day, we'll embark on a thrilling zodiac boat trip. This adventure allows you to experience the rugged Newfoundland coastline from a unique vantage point. As we navigate the waters, keep an eye out for majestic whales. With a bit of luck, you might capture spectacular shots of these gentle giants breaching the surface. The zodiac trip also offers the chance to photograph seabirds soaring above and the ever-changing seascape.
Friday, June 19: Today we begin the drive back to St. John's, with stops along the way to photograph landscapes and small fishing villages. We'll also share our photos from the trip with critique and feedback from Jason.
