MEAC CEUs pending.  Learn about why some babies choose a persistent breech position and how to encourage them to be head-down.  We will be covering acupuncture, webster technique, other body work techniques for making space for an optimally positioned baby, and some of the reasons why babies initially adopt a breech position.  Repositioning strategies will take up about a third of the time allotted for the class with the rest devoted to vaginal breech birth skills.  We will be viewing films and demonstrations to show the normal mechanisms of breech birth and then working through drills to gain confidence in helping babies out who deviate from the expected.  This class is based on generations of knowledge from British and American midwives as well as new research from Germany and France.  Please bring a dish to pass for a lunch potluck as well as a baby model and pelvis, if you have one available.  Taught by Stacia Proefrock, CPM For more information, please call Stacia at 734 834 5392.  $80 for MMA members, $100 for non-members. Proceeds go to a grant fund to assist with state licensing fees for MMA member midwives.

The Michigan Midwives Association (MMA) represents a network of midwives, childbirth professionals, and students, and the spectrum of the Midwives Model of Care. We believe out-of-hospital births, attended by trained midwives, are an essential option for healthy women and their families. We support the rights of parents to make informed decisions about childbirth. The MMA supports advances in the profession of midwifery which enhance quality, community, and education among midwives, consumers, and other health care providers. The MMA is a non-profit corporation
