· CPD Talk: Building Isolation - Increasing the value of buildings and their comfort levels by offering protection against ground-borne railway vibrations
The presentation highlights the design process and structural measures using elastomeric bearings to mitigate the risks of vibration and noise transmission from existing railway lines into new buildings in design stage.
The presentation will discuss:
Growing rates of urbanisation are resulting in ever more new buildings springing up on plots of land that are susceptible to vibration. The vibrations frequently emanate from nearby railway lines. Unless appropriate action is taken, these buildings are defenceless against the structure-borne noise generated in their immediate environments: unwanted and occasionally even unacceptably severe vibrations are the result.
Secondary airborne noise levels also rise, as the vibrations excite elements such as the walls or ceilings. External factors such as these have an unfailingly adverse effect on the living and working environment inside the building.
Getzner Werkstoffe offers highly effective protection against shocks and vibrations. Our solutions boost the value of buildings and land. Successful projects, including the Optinoe in Munich, serve to demonstrate that even buildings constructed immediately next to busy railway lines can meet the most stringent requirements.
About the Speakers
Ulrich Gerhaher – Getzner Werkstoffe
Ulrich worked for 5 years as a civil engineer in Vienna before he changed to the Institute of Constructive Engineering to do his PhD on elastomeric bearings. He has over 15 years of experience in the design and development of elastomeric bearings for vibration and seismic isolation. For 9 years he has been the leading expert on bearings for vibration isolation of buildings at Getzner Werkstoffe.
Omar Malas – Getzner Werkstoffe
Omar has worked for 7 years at Getzner Werkstoffe as an area manager for the middle east region. He has gained high expertise in delivering vibration mitigation solutions to governmental and non-governmental customers in the energy, water and building sectors in GCC, while fulfilling structural dynamics and acoustic targets
The event is a hybrid event. It will take place at Herriot-Watt University, Al Sufouh, Knowledge Park, Dubai.
Refreshments will be provided. Free basement parking available at the event location.
