SOS Children's Villages Illinois offers American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification to all employees.  The purpose of this course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies.  The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

This training is scheduled from 9am-4pm at the Lockport Village.  Training will start promptly at 9am, and no participants will be admitted after 9:15am.  Please note, this is a full-day of training.  Participants should plan to bring lunch, drinks, and a light snack as the training will go from 9am to 4pm.  There will be two short breaks and a 30 minute lunch break.

Participants should dress in professional attire that allows for movement, minimal jewelry, and shoes with a rubber sole.  This training will involve being physically active, including getting down on the ground to practice skills such as CPR, rescue breaths, and moving classmates into appropriate rescue positions.

 To earn certification, you must:

--Be present, both phsically and mentally, for the duration of the training;

--Participate in discussions and activities; and

--Demonstrate competency in all required skills.

If you would like a copy of participant materials, please visit http://www.redcross.org/participantmaterials.  You can download PDFs and access them on a computer/laptop, tablet, e-reader, or smart phone.  You may also print it out if you prefer a hard copy.  Hard copies are available for in-class use only.

Upon successful completion of the class and demonstration of core competencies, participants will achieve an Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification valid for two years.

If you need child care during this training, please contact your supervisor.  It is your responsibility to notify your supervisor and ensure appropriate child care is secured.  Children may not sit in for this training.
