Music played an integral role in Herman Vahramian’s artistic life. Through concert programming, a series of score publications, and the design of CDs and vinyl records, Vahramian actively worked to disseminate contemporary music from underrepresented cultures, particularly Armenian and Iranian, to European audiences. As we celebrate his legacy in the gallery, we are pleased to invite you to a special listening session highlighting the work of contemporary Armenian women composers and artists.

While Armenian women have long played an active role as composers and artists, their contributions remain little known. This gathering, open to all, offers a chance to discover new work by Armenian female composers and artists through shared listening and discussion.

Participating artists include Shushan Arevshatyan (Yerevan), Eve Egoyan (Toronto), Mané Hovanissyan (Yerevan), Shushan Hyusnuts (Milan), Narine Mkhitaryan (Yerevan), Gascia Ouzounian (Oxford), Marie Yevkiné Tirard (Paris), and Gariné Torossian (Yerevan).

The event celebrates the first anniversary of AHA collective’s gallery space. Together with encountering new music by female composers, we will listen to selections from MUSICAM TRIO’s 1985 recording of music by Komitas, arranged by Ludwig Bazil. MUSICAM was a music institute founded by two childhood friends from Iran who settled in European cities, Ludwig Basil in Munich, and Herman Vahramian in Milan.

Join us in a friendly and open environment to explore contemporary music and art together, followed by a reception.

The event is organized together with Gascia Ouzounian, in Armenia for her field research. Free entrance with prior registration. Space is limited.

About Organizer

AHA collective Organizer name

AHA collective is a curatorial practice engaged internationally, rooted in Yerevan, Armenia. Founded in 2019 by curator and art historian Nairi Khatchadourian, AHA collective aims at conceiving projects in a way so they foster collaboration, investigate local resources and know-how, become a subject of conversation, of the society, of today and tomorrow. We manage, curate, and commission research, artworks, exhibitions, publications, design, audiovisual works, site-specific installations. We love working with tangible and intangible cultural heritage, territories, communities, and institutions. AHA’s gallery in Yerevan exhibits and sells works by artists from diverse backgrounds across the modern and contemporary eras, with a strong focus on emerging voices and overlooked figures from Armenia and its diaspora. Through curated exhibitions, public programs, and critical dialogue, the gallery contributes to a broader recognition of Armenian art within the global cultural discourse.
