he SUNY Transfer Equivalency Platform (STEP) is a toolset and comprehensive transfer equivalency data set standardized to be compatible with various student information systems and degree audit systems. To provide you with an overview of the tools, the platform, and the overall roadmap, we are offering an open webinar designed to provide a high-level overview of the platform and the overall approach to technology in new transfer initiatives.

Transfer students bring a wealth of experience, resilience, and diverse perspectives to campus life, yet they also face unique challenges that can impact their mental health and emotional well-being. This interactive workshop aims to explore the psychological landscape of transfer student experiences, highlighting common stressors such as identity shifts, social integration, academic pressure, and a sense of belonging.

Designed for both transfer students and the faculty/staff who support them, the session will combine evidence-based insights with opportunities for dialogue and reflection. Participants will engage in collaborative discussions and guided exercises that center on recognizing strengths, identifying support needs, and building community-based solutions. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how to foster inclusive, affirming spaces that promote emotional wellness for transfer students.

The University of Wyoming has transformed its approach to transfer credit, creating student-friendly policies that maximize credit applicability and streamline degree completion. This workshop will explore how UW developed a transfer policy recognizing analogous general education requirements, enabling greater flexibility for transfer students. We will examine how a shift from traditional 2+2 agreements to block articulation allows for more efficient and responsive partnerships between institutions and responds to real-world student behavior. Finally, we will look at how UW has moved to support students seeking degree completion (including AAS degree holders) in online BAS programs. Attendees will gain insight into policy development, articulation strategies, and practical solutions for expanding degree completion opportunities.

This session will explore the challenges transfer students face as they integrate into new academic and social environments, and highlight engagement strategies aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and community. Join Michael Henningsen from Binghamton University and Greg Diller from SUNY Cortland as they share insights, initiatives, and best practices from their respective campuses to support and retain transfer students beyond the initial transition.

Transfer students are a population with a variety of intersectional needs. While it may be helpful to for campuses to have a specific office dedicated to serving transfer students, it may be more effective to pool resources and skillsets from a range of offices to best meet those varied needs. Binghamton University's Transfer Collaborative, which is comprised of Transfer Student Success, Residential Life, Admissions, transfer student groups, and other campus partners, takes a holistic approach to serving our transfer students academically, developmentally, and socially. This session will explore some of the specific initiatives that the Transfer Collaborative has undertaken and goals that it has as it continues to evolve. The session will also delve into how the varied needs of transfer students intersect and how a multiplicity of campus resources can work together to address those different needs. Lastly, the session will offer attendees the opportunity to think creatively about ways that they can engage their peers across various sectors at their campuses in the interest of serving transfer students.

The Enrollment Management Transfer team at the University of Buffalo, in collaboration with the Undergraduate Education unit, has taken a proactive approach to enhance transfer partnerships. Through innovative programming, embedded advising, and streamlined articulation agreements, this partnership has resulted in improved transfer pathways, increased enrollment, and stronger support for transfer students. This proposal outlines the strategies and initiatives that have driven this success, along with the creative ideas and outcomes that have emerged from the collaboration.

This roundtable discussion will bring 2-year and 4-year colleges together who particularly play a role in event planning and recruitment to discuss making recruitment events (college fairs, tabling visits, etc) more effective for our travel and recruitment efforts, have a higher turn-out of 4-year colleges and students, and get the most out of our limited staffing and dwindling recruitment budgets.
