The Conversations on Cleaning Forum will convene cleaning product formulators and suppliers, like-minded organizations from the hygiene, healthcare and safety sectors as well as researchers, clinicians and academics for a full-day discussion around the most pressing issues impacting the industry and ways to address them.
It’s our hope this event will spark continued conversation among key thought leaders, like yourself, on ways to improve communication about the importance of cleaning products on health and address consumer confidence consistently diminished by inaccuracies and misinformation. Established in 1926, ACI is dedicated to advancing public understanding of the safety and benefits of cleaning products, and protecting the ability of its members to formulate products that best meet consumer needs. ACI serves both its members and the public by developing and sharing information about industry products with the technical community, policy makers, childcare and health professionals, educators, media and consumers. A 25-member Board of Directors consisting of elected representatives from member companies, both large and small, sets policy for the Association. Various committees, subcommittees, task forces and working groups carry out programs. ACI programs address a variety of human health and environmental safety issues from several perspectives.

Microbiome science now shows that interaction with our microbial world is essential to health. The question is “how do we continue to protect ourselves against harmful microbes whilst at the same time sustaining exposure to essential microbes?” In 2018 a group of experts in hygiene prepared a consensus paper on what needs to be done to address these apparently conflicting issues.

Over the last forty years, there has been a change in societal values with respect to cleaning that has involved a shift from trust in the use of soaps, detergents, disinfectants, and antiseptics, to a requirement for environmental sustainability and individual wellness. Jason will explore an approach to restore trust in cleaning products by using another influential social value - being active. All cleaning products have an active ingredient, which makes them effective. By using the active ingredient as a basis for messaging, trust can be restored in the need for cleaning products and the results that they offer in terms of aesthetics as well as safety.
