The Oxford\nAmerican Dictionary defines it this way: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hashtag n. (on social networking websites such as Twitter) a\nhash or pound sign (#) used to identify a particular keyword or phrase in a\nposting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A hashtag can be used to keep track of how an individual\npost is engaging followers and fans. Or to find other posts that are\ninteresting to you or your customers. Here are some examples of hashtags event\nplanners can use to research event ideas and planning tips: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>#eventprofs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#eventmanagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#meetingmarketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#eventplannerlife <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are its uses?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marketers use hashtags to maximize search results for\ncritical keywords and to increase engagement in social media posts. As an event\nplanner, you can use hashtags to build your event brand, build event awareness,\nand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventzilla.net\/event-resources\/how-to-create-wow-moments-at-your-next-event\/\">engage\nyour event audience<\/a>.&nbsp; In fact,\nTwitter reports that brands that use hashtags see a 50% increase in engagement\ncompared to those that don\u2019t use hashtags. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hashtags are a must when posting content on Twitter and\nInstagram. Experts suggest using 1 or 2 hashtags per Twitter post and 9 to 12\nhashtags per Instagram post. On LinkedIn, hashtags are becoming more prevalent,\nso use them if they make sense for your event. Hashtags are rarely used on\nFacebook.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To be completely effective, don\u2019t just use hashtags on social media platforms. Include them in your marketing messaging on your ticket website, in emails and digital ads, on tickets, and in press releases. Plaster it all over your event day materials as well, including agendas, name tags, signs, and presentations. If your target audience doesn&#8217;t know about your hashtag, they won&#8217;t use it or search for it.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Creating Effective Hashtags <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to use hashtags that will engage your target\naudience and meet your social media engagement goals. Create hashtags that are:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Relevant to your audience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Descriptive of your event<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unique to your event<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easy to understand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Not too long <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For ideas, review the marketing messages you\u2019ve created for\nyour ticket website and advertising. Use applicable sales language and call to\nactions from those materials to create your hashtags. Make sure your tone and\nstyle are similar. Don\u2019t use acronyms or abbreviations that wouldn\u2019t make sense\nto the general public. You could also\nuse existing ones. Do a thorough search across social media platforms for\nhashtag ideas and inspiration. Review the hashtags that industry leaders and\ninfluencers are using. Ask your speakers what hashtags are pertinent to their\nfans and followers. Search industry publications and other event sites for\nrelevant hashtags. Look for hashtags that pertain to the locality of your event\nas well as your event venue. Use research tools such as Hastagify for\ninspiration. Take advantage of hashtags that are already trending. For example,\nif #AdminProfessionalsDay is trending and your event focuses on administrative\nsupport training, use this tweet to entice leaders to gift event tickets to\ntheir admins.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When to Use Hashtags?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use hashtags whenever you post on Twitter, Instagram, and\nLinkedIn. It doesn\u2019t matter where you are in the event planning and marketing\ncycle. Brand building is never-ending.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before your event, use hashtags to build awareness and to drive people to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventzilla.net\/sell-tickets-online\">ticket sales site<\/a>. Create a buzz for your event by featuring key speakers and attendees who will be at your event. Target leaders in specific industries or in certain locations with relevant hashtags. Create conversations by asking your followers questions and ask for the hashtag to be included in responses. Run ticket discounts and contests using hashtags to track engagement.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On event day, keep the conversation going by using a special\nevent day hashtag.
