Our chief activity is the yearly regional jam in an Ontario city, which first happened in Kitchener in 2001, and has since traveled to Ottawa and Toronto as well. Contact Dance International Film Festival (CDIFF) – Riding the Edge of the Creative Wave

The Contact Dance International Film Festival returns for its second season. This festival, produced by REAson d’etre dance productions, celebrates films featuring momentum-based dance created by some of the top choreographers and dancers in the field of Contact Dance Improvisation. Three different screening programs will be presented alongside dance workshops, jams and parties! The festival is a unique opportunity for both film and dance lovers to experience the joy, chaos and intimacy of human connection through physical movement. From the expansive peaks of British Columbia, to the streets of Kiev, to the Festival Interplay in Torino Italy, prepare to be moved as dancers fly and bodies collide with force, grace and tenderness.

This year, the Festival is thrilled to bring Israeli choreographer Sharon Fridman to Toronto. Fridman’s film Hasta Donde won the audience choice award at the inaugural Contact Dance International Film Festival. He and his dance partner Arthur Bernard will teach a class and two workshop series. As well, they will give a special performance of Hasta Donde, “a duet powerful in its complete surrender to the body’s natural rhythms.”

We are also delighted that the Ontario Regional Contact Jam is occurring in Toronto on May 16 and 17, 2015, directly after the festival. Contact dancers inspired by the Contact Dance International Film Festival can dance their hearts out in a weekend of jamming, community and creativity.
