The Office of Cultural Education will host a two-day conference, Uncommon Approaches to the Common Core, on August 12 and 13, 2014, aimed at school librarians, public librarians, academic librarians, teachers, administrators, and representatives from cultural organizations such as museums, archives, public television, NYS historic sites, performing arts organizations, and public historians.
Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the Common Core Learning Standards and how cultural resources can be utilized in order to effectively support the implementation of the Common Core Learning Standards. The conference will foster collaboration and inquiry, and will include workshops in all subject areas.

The keynote presenter at the conference will be Barbara Stripling, the 2013-2014 American Library Association President.
There is a registration fee for this conference ($50) and it must be paid by check within ten days of your registration. Checks should be made payable to The USNY (not SUNY) Regents Research Fund and mailed to C. Northrup, 10A33 CEC, Empire State Plaza, Albany NY 12230. NOTE: The deadline for submitting purchase orders has expired - ONLY CHECKS will be accepted for payment. Checks must be received by the close of business July 25, 2014.
Reasonable travel and lodging expenses (at the State Rate, double-occupancy) will be reimbursed if you live more than 60 miles away from the conference. Reimbursement forms will be provided at the conference. Although participants are welcome from any state, only New York State participants may receive reimbursement of travel expenses.
