The annual Arkansas Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) Spring Conference is April 27-28, 2012 at the William F. Laman Public Library in North Little Rock, Ark, which is sponsoring the conference.
Conference faculty includes two children’s book editors and an author – Ariel Richardson of Chronicle Books; Krista Vitola of Delacorte Press; and, Katy Duffield, fiction and non-fiction author. Duffield’s most recent book, “California History for Kids: Missions, Miners, and Moviemakers in the Golden State,” was released by Chicago Review Press in January.
The event begins on Friday afternoon (1:30-4:30 p.m.) with a writer’s intensive led by Duffield. On Friday evening, writers & illustrators can attend a Pizza Party & Social that includes a book signing by Duffield, pitch sessions with the editors, and genre meetings to network with other writers and illustrators. Pitch sessions are extremely limited and available first to SCBWI members. Saturday features sessions by Richardson and Vitola, and manuscript critiques (submitted in advance by March 16) and portfolio critiques with the editors.
