MEET DIRECTOR ALAN BROWN AND STAR MATT DOYLE AT AN EXCLUSIVE, INTIMATE SCREENING OF 'PRIVATE ROMEO.'
On Tuesday evening, October 2, Out Professionals presents a private Meatpacking District screening of "Private Romeo," a film by Alan Brown.
In his stunning cinematic mash-up of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," filmmaker/writer Brown explores the love of two military school cadets, played by Broadway's Seth Numrich and Matt Doyle.
Shakespeare's drama is usually interpreted as a romantic tale of young love thwarted by a family feud. But Brown sees it as "a much more modern and relevant story about sexual identity and desire pitted against society and its institutions." Composer Nicholas Wright's score combines live singing and lip-synching to YouTube music videos.
Winner of a Grand Jury Prize at Outfest in Los Angeles, the film was acclaimed by The New York Observer ("Brave, controversial, hugely adventurous and highly liberated") and named a New York Times Critic's Pick ("Performed to perfection")
