5 tips for hosting a successful family reunion

Your family reunion is a very special occasion and of course you want to do everything that you can to promote an atmosphere that is best for making memories! Below we’ve put together a few of the top tips for making sure that your event is the best it can be!

Make your family reunion a success

  1. Create a website – One of the easiest ways to make sure that everyone can keep in touch and stay apprised of any changes in plans is to create a family reunion website. Some websites can easily add blogs or forums that family members can use to communicate and share information about the event.
  2. Send out a survey – Find out what kinds of things your family members would like to see / eat / do at the reunion. You can use this as a sort of event registration by adding an RSVP item, allowing respondents to let you know if they will be able to attend or not.
  3. Hire professionals – If catering or photography or music isn’t your strong suit but you want to have one heck of a good time, consider hiring professionals to help your event go more smoothly. You’ll enjoy yourself more in the long run!
  4. Ensure transportation – Make sure that transportation of one form or another is available to everyone. If your family members are flying into town for the reunion, ask if they can use their online ticketing website to find an inexpensive rental car for the duration of the reunion. This way no one needs to worry about carpooling and everyone can do their own thing.
  5. Plan a variety of activities – Depending on the age range of your loved ones you may need to plan activities for a variety of age groups and activity levels. Grandma probably can’t participate in the 3-legged race at the picnic, and little Jimmy might not find catching up on the benches by the pond to be much fun either. To solve this problem, have child-friendly entertainment available, such as access to a playground if you are having your event at a local park. For older guests, have ways they can interact with the younger guests (such as reading them stories) and things they can do with others of their age group or alone such as cards or board games and movies.

Family reunions should be a time of love and laughter where loved ones who might be far apart for most of the year can get together and make mutual memories. With the right kind of planning, hosting your family reunion can be a breeze, leaving you free to enjoy the festivities with the people you love most.
